I worked on the forest sequence for the opening titles for Half Rez 2019, which we did as a group at Boxfort. Here’s a look at the process.

Process
A look behind the curtain. In 3D only what the camera sees needs to be pretty! I cloned a large group of leaves to get the dappled shadow look.
Dave was able to sketch out the basic structure for the spear shot in cel. It was a great way to get the timing down. I took his flat animated cel elements, and parented under the camera in Cinema4D. Looks really crazy but thats how fast that shot moves!
To help the forest feel alive, I used mograph effectors and fields to give randome movement to the leaves.
More random movement to the grass with bend deformers. Cloned grass reacts to the explosion due to an expanding torus field.
